Potential employment rundown.

In part, this is just to make myself more comfortable, but on the off chance someone out there cares how it's going:

  • (Recruiter has info, says he'll place me somewhere, haven't heard anything back yet, but it hasn't been long enough to have heard back yet.) x 5 or so
  • (Recruiter has info, says he'll place me somewhere, hadn't heard anything back yet, I followed up, nothing for now, but they'll keep track of me.) x 5 or so
  • Small, start-up atmosphere, anti-spam company in the Philadelphia area interviewed me, in person, for sort of a network ops position. They seem really cool, haven't heard back, have a feeling it's Not A Fit. (In light of that, and because I think they're pretty cool, just not where my career is headed at the moment–though I'd be glad to be proved wrong; I just don't think I'm what they're after–I'm going to drop the anonymity and say that you should all go check out Turntide and turn your C_Os onto their little router/bridge box that slows down the delivery of mail that's probably spam, increasing the economic incentive against spamming by tying up the spammers' machine for longer.)
  • Recruiter wants to place me in the IT department for an automotive manufacturer, a job which would be based in NJ near the Philadelphia area. Spoke with the recruiter Tuesday or Wednesday of this past week, don't expect to hear back till after the long weekend.
  • Large Financial Institution (LFI–did I just create a TLA?) in NYC needs someone, but is concentrating on another position first (recruiter will get back to me after this long weekend).
  • (Different) LFI in NYC phone-screened me on Friday of last week and wants in-person interviews Thursday.
  • Pharma/science/e-commerce (yeah, whatever) in Pittsburgh phone screened maybe Thursday of last week, haven't heard more back yet, don't expect to until after this long weekend.
  • Internal HR/recruiter woman from an anti-{spam,virus}/security company in Vancouver (!!!), BC (where 4 July isn't a holiday) followed up on an email conversation of last week today, returned her phone call, set for a phone tech screen tomorrow. They don't seem phased by the fact that I'm a US citizen (and I'd jump at the opportunity to stop being one, or at least add an alternate passport).

So, I think things are going pretty okay.
