The desk at home.

So, I've got a Nikon 5700 (recall that I asked for opinions on it a while ago–and did get responses, though not publicly on lj). I'm happy with it. 8x optical zoom, less than completely braindamaged UI, behaves like a USB mass storage device (even under my wonky NetBSD 1.6K kernel; just don't unplug it without a umount(8) or the system hangs).

In light of recent events, I've been sitting in front of the computer here at home, rather than at work. There's a bit less space than on the desk at work (there's plenty of space in the room, this is just as big as I need this desk to be), so all the digital toys I shuck when seated are in a little pile, plus the stuff that's always here. Struck me it was photogenic (and I wanted to show off the new toy).

From left to right we've got:

  • the corner of an IBM Model M keyboard (best keyboard ever),
  • linesman's handset,
  • aging speaker (the stain's a nice '97 chianti… long story),
  • half-empty (ha!) glass of some riesling,
  • red stapler (no, I didn't burn the place down),
  • Sony-Ericsson T616 (Bluetooth, though I haven't gotten around to picking up the headset yet),
  • boring cordless phone (connected to my Vonage line),
  • Rio Karma.

You may note by the position of the wine glass (this was not posed) that I don't really use the mouse much…
